Modifier -52

Can someone please answer this question!

A patient was having lap left salpingo-oophorectomy by another surgeon. My surgeon was called in emergently due to patient having significant pelvic adhesions. My provider performed the adhesiolysis but did not do any opening or closing of the procedure. Provider went to a coding conference and stated that he was informed that he would not have to add this modifier since he was called in emergently and this procedure was not planned.

Can somebody please clarify?

Thanks
