Bring House Call Coding into the 21st Century

As home-based primary care makes a comeback, be sure physicians’ payment for services isn’t obsolete. Many of us are old enough to remember “Marcus Welby, M.D.,” and the doctors on shows like “Little House on the Prairie,” who would visit someone’s home in the event of an emergency, or if someone was homebound. Medical Billing In The 21st Century

Today’s medical billing services are a new way to move your medical office forward.

Some medical offices are indeed reluctant to embrace change. With the growing popularity of computer-based recordkeeping systems, paper files and charting are becoming almost a thing of the past. “Meaningful use” means that many medical offices will soon be switching to an EMR system.

This move towards electronic systems means that offices are becoming more efficient than ever. However, while some electronic systems aim to enhance the staff’s ability to perform their jobs and work effectively, other equipment may prove to be a problem. Medical billing equipment often proves to be somewhat of a problem for untrained staff. The alternative, of course, is ot continue using a paper billing system something nearly unsuitable for today’s modern medical office.

Standard billing hardware and software is often very expensive and requires a long and extensive installation process. While you will save space from files and workspaces of people performing billing at the office, the equipment can prove difficult to become accustomed to. Worse, however, is the training required to run a medical billing software system. The user must have basic computer and office software knowledge, plus easy access to technical resources should any equipment break or prove problematic. The user must be trained on using this medical billing and office management software, as well. This training can be long and extensive and often requires the hiring of new staff to handle billing.

A smarter option is to outsource your medical billing to a medical billing service. Medical billing services, like PhyLogic, are an excellent way to bill patients using a thoroughly trained and well-experienced staff. Billing representatives at a medical billing service specialize in only medical billing wherein at a doctor’s office, the people handling the billing may also be running the front desk and even caring for patients. By using a specialist with the time to devote their entire day to calling, meeting with patients and insurance providers, and handling claims, you will ensure that your billing is done correctly and that your office moves smoothly into the electronic age.
