3 Great Reasons to Hire Newly Credentialed Coders

Practice managers are wise to know the advantages of hiring new, highly educated medical coders. Newly-credentialed medical coders, while looking for their first medical coding job, often face the classic catch-22: “You need a job to gain experience, but you can’t get a job without experience.” This situation causes anxiety and frustration for many newly-credentialed […]

non-credentials NPs billing under credentialed NPs

Are there any other organizations billing one NP’s service under another NP’s name and NPI? We have new mid-level providers who aren’t yet credentialed, so the established mid-level providers in the clinic are signing the notes and expecting the claims to go out under their name and NPI. Everything I have found says that this is incorrect billing, because both incident-to and split/shared billing require the supervising provider to be a physician. Does anyone have information supporting claim submission of one mid-level’s charges under another mid-level’s information prior to credentialing?

what place of service code to use for in-house credentialed sleep lab?

Te practice has a credentialed sleep lab in office, and they are performing monitored polysomnography. They are getting many denials for POS when 95810 & 95811 are submitted with POS 11.

The lab is not affiliated with a hospital, but it is under the direction and control of a physician. Is this a case of the POS being wrong, or should the AR department prepare standard documentation and be ready to file lots of appeals?

New provider not credentialed with health plans

Hi there,

We have a new provider (an MD – not an NP) who is not quite credentialed with all the health plans our practice participates with. When she sees patients who have an insurance she is not credentialed with, I have been directed to bill those claims under another physician at the practice. Is this acceptable? If anyone can provide me with some guidance on this I would appreciate it greatly!!

Billing a Non-Credentialed Provider under a Credentialed Provider’s NPI–HELP

I am currently in the end stages of the interview process to become the lead medical biller at a smaller private practice. I have a friend who works there who mentioned last night I would need to be comfortable billing non-credentialed providers under the credentialed providers. She stated the credentialed providers will step into the office visit for a moment and that makes it legal to bill as listed above. I am HIGHLY unsure of the legality of this and do not want to start my career as a medical biller performing unethical practices that might be considered fraud. I understand each payer is different and it could depend on the individual contract. Can someone help make this more clear for me.

Thanks in advance!

Newly Credentialed CPC-A

Hello anyone, everyone!!
My name is Linda Angeles, I passed my CPC certification exam back in April of this year. I am currently enrolled in AAPCs CPB certification course. At this moment I am not employed and have yet to begin my job search, I have read about have difficult it can be for beginners (rookies) to find employment in the medical coding field, this one reason why I decided to go forward with my education and hopefully secure my next credential as a CPB. I do have to admit as a beginner I often have moments when I think, "What if I get a job and I forget everything I have learned". I also have moments when I feel I do not know anything or I do not know enough to secure employment. I know I can only learn so much and that all the courses can only teach me so much, I need to go out and gain work experience, I need to put my knowledge to the test.

I am wondering if there are any seasoned coders and/or billers who can offer some words of wisdom or encouragement. I would greatly appreciate any tips or mentoring. Am I silly to think such things or is this a normal thing that every beginner faces when going into a new career?

Thank you for letting me vent even if no one reads this, sometimes it helps just to put it out there.
