Dexa Scans

Hi

If there is anyone familiar with Vascular Lab PLEASE HELP.

When charging for a Vascular studies can you charge 93978 and 93970. There is only one report for documentation. I have read the article in the Healthcare Business Monthly in August that digs into the coding and reimbursements. I still don’t know the answer to this question.

Please if you can give a little more feed back on reading documentation or resources to go to for a better billing understanding.

Thank you,

Nikia Hay BA, CPC

Celiac Disease and DEXA

One of the docs I code for ordered a DEXA (77080) for a patient with Celiac Disease (K90.0). Radiology is telling him they won’t use the Celiac code because it won’t be paid. The links between Osteoporosis and digestive diseases exists, but getting those codes paid is another story. Does anyone have any other information on this? I have tried searching the LCD’s/NCD’s, and I can’t find much of anything. My boss isn’t here for me to ask, but she is the one who told me Celiac Disease is payable for a DEXA. Any advice is appreciated, thank you!

Dexa icd 10 coding

Can someone please shed some light on how they code dexa scans. Here is the scenario:

Pt presents for baseline dexa, clinical indication of breast cancer and is post menopausal. Since the pt is positive for breast cancer and is post menopausal would this be considered a diagnostic exam eventhough the pt is not presenting with any current bone density signs or symptoms? per coding guidelines the exam would no longer be considered a screening if pt is symptomatic. But this is the patients Baseline exam. I fully understand that chemo and being postmenopausal presents its own bone density issues but since this is the baseline should it not be a screening with the clinical indications listed secondary?

Thanks for any and all input!!
