Pain doctor pays to settle allegations of deceptive Medicare billing.

A 52-year-old pain management physician from Houston has paid $ 530,000 to resolve allegations he falsely billed Medicare for the use of electro-acupuncture devices, announced U.S. Attorney Ryan K. Patrick.

From March 1, 2019, to Oct. 31, 2019, Dr. Syed Nasir billed Medicare for the implantation of neurostimulator electrodes–a surgical procedure that usually requires use of an operating room.

Lenox Hill Hospital Pays $12.3 Million Settlement For Submitting Fraudulent Medicare Claims

The US Attorney for Manhattan, New York, and a Special Agent for the OIG’s New York Regional Office, announced today that the US Federal Government has settled a civil fraud suit against Lenox Hill (a Manhattan Hospital) and its corporate parent Northwell. The Government’s complaint alleges that the two Defendants violated the False Claims Act by knowingly and fraudulently billing Medicare for healthcare services that didn’t comply with Medicare law.

Medicare Pays for Prolonged Preventive Services


Effective for claims with dates of service on or after January 1, 2018, prolonged preventive services will be payable by Medicare when billed as an add-on to an applicable preventive service that is payable from the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule, and both deductible and coinsurance do not apply. HCPCS Codes G0513 and G0514 for prolonged preventive services will be added as part of January1, 2018, HCPCS update and the coinsurance and deductible will be waived.

Norman Orthopedic Practice Pays $1,537,796

Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Center-Norman (collectively “OSC”) have paid $ 1,537,796 to settle civil claims stemming from allegations that they submitted false claims to Medicare, Medicaid, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and TRICARE. In reaching this settlement, OSC did not admit liability, and the government did not make any concessions regarding the legitimacy of the claims. The agreement allows the parties to avoid the delay, expense, inconvenience, and uncertainty involved in litigating the case.
