Katie Reynolds

Dear Madam or Sir,

I am a graduate of the Medical Coding Specialist program at Madison College and went on to continue my education in the Advanced courses offered in Medical Coding. I am currently enrolled in the online internship Practicode with the American Academy of Professional Coders. This internship has served as a great refresher on coding while I’ve been staying home to raise my children for the past few years. I’ve also stayed busy with volunteer work during this time.

I have eight years of insurance and office experience, seven of which were with Government contracts for TRICARE, TRICARE For Life, working with Veterans and coordinating benefits with Medicare, Medicaid and private insurers. This experience, along with my education in medical coding, in addition to my experience with claim adjustments, offsets and reimbursement on medical claims, general office duties, prove that I am an ideal candidate. My experience in addressing billing issues, coding complications, error checking, breakdown of billing, working with different departments and staff, organizing charts and appointments all showcase a high attention to detail in everything that I do.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Katie Reynolds

lab work not covered

Our doctors sometimes send patients for blood work because the patient has itching all over with no obvious cause, and so they want to rule out thyroid, liver, and other systemic diseases. But since the primary diagnosis is "pruritis," these tests are not covered.

Does anyone know how we can order these tests using diagnosis of what the doctor is trying to rule out, rather than the symptoms?

Thanks!

Modifier for 99080 billing TX Work comp SOMR

Hello –

Does anyone know where I can find a list of appropriate modifiers for Texas work comp.
We filled out the DWC073 and DWC069 stating the patient could now return to work.
We billed our E/M code as well as the 99080 but used modifier 73.
SOMR has kicked it back for the procedure code is inconsistent with the Modifier used or Required modifier is missing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Work comp and nurse case managers

I bill for an urgent care clinic in Texas that does a lot of occupational medicine. We recently learned that when a nurse case manager accompanies a Work Comp patient for a visit with the physician, we can bill the nurse case manager at time of service. We have determined that we would bill using 99080, but we are unsure about the charge amount. I have seen in some threads in the forum that $ 25 is allowed, however, one of our physicians has heard we can charge as much as $ 100 per visit. Does anyone know what is appropriate in Texas?

Thank you.
