Working as a Remote Coder During COVID-19

If you find yourself struggling to rapidly adjust to the ever-changing environment of the COVID-19 pandemic, you are not alone. Link for purchasing Disneyland tickets not working. Help?

I previously looked at the page to purchase tickets and saw the buy tickets button, but it seems to have gone missing and there is no way to actually purchase the tickets. The site and e-mail say sales close tonight 9/14 @ 9pm PST. It’s now about 7:40 and I’ve been trying and fighting with it for 2 hours now. I tried calling AAPC, but they are closed and there is no other #. Anyone else having same issue or know how to get through the system?

Anybody have experience working for Aviacode or Kiwi-Tek?

I am currently seeking out the possibility of taking on a part time/PRN remote coding job to supplement my current full time Job (2 years coding experience doing inpatient hospitalists E/M) and I have come across both Avicode and Kiwi-Tek online. Can anybody who has worked for these companies tell me how you liked them? Do they provide any training or do they provide a lap top/computer to work on? How flexible are the hours? Thanks!

CPC’s Working for Insurance Companies

I am trying to connect with any coders that are possibly working for insurance companies. I am in a new positon with an insurance company working with a clinical editing system. This is the back end processing of claims that I have never dealt with over my career. Any insight on process and protocol from another coder that was previously on the physician side, that now works with insurance edits would be more than appreciated.

Working as a Medical Practitioner Down Under

There is a great demand for medical professionals around the world. So as a doctor, you might think as to why you should look for employment opportunities Down Under. The answer to this lies in the fact that Australia has one of the premier healthcare systems in the world. There is proper balance between public and private healthcare systems. The medical sector in the country has managed to achieve what some of the leading countries in the world have not yet managed. The country has a comprehensive healthcare system that strives to provide all with excellent health care benefits.

When it comes to placements for medical jobs in different locations, the choices are abundant. Medical practitioners can be placed in private clinics, at private hospitals and even in medical colleges. There is also much scope for foreign doctors and there is no such restriction placed on their practice.

The health system in the country has a lot on offer for medical practitioners. There are several overseas trained doctors who come to the country for embarking on a successful medical career. Overseas trained doctors are usually placed in areas where there is a genuine shortage of a trained workforce. The term for which they are placed in the rural belts (these are the locations that generally fall short of doctors) vary in case of overseas doctors and citizens of the country.

The healthcare system in the country can be truly classified as world class.  Equally competent is the medical research and development and education industry that places a good deal of trust on international experience. If you are an overseas doctor looking forward to find appointment at a medical establishment in Australia, then you should first carefully make a note of the criteria that you need to fulfil in order to be eligible for appointment. These include:

The English language proficiency requirements that need to be met as set by the Australian Medical Council or the AMC
Making an application for a visa and pass that calls for medical and background checks
Specialists should make their application through Specialist Medical College
General practitioners must clear the AMC examination
Application should be made to the Medical Board of Australia for registration
Acquire medical indemnity in the country

These are the requirements that need to be met when it comes to applying for doctor jobs in Australia.

The medical registration process depends on the qualifications and circumstances of the one who is seeking appointment. It is determined by the fact whether the applicant is a specialist, a hospital non-specialist or a general practitioner. Eligible doctors can be given a conditional medical registration or a full medical registration.

Overseas doctors may not find themselves appointed as soon as they place their application. It is necessary to find a locum agency that can find an appropriate vacancy for them. All you need to do is fulfil the criteria and then wait for them to call you up whenever there is a suitable vacancy.

Daniel Smith is a recruitment consultant and has actively worked with locums that specialise in doctor jobs. He has in-depth industry knowledge which is apparent through his publications that focus on medical doctor jobs. He recommends a visit to the website http://www.globalmedics.com/ for further information.

Communicating in a Remote Working World

Working remotely or offsite has become the new normal for coders, making the art of communication more important than ever. But with such a large influx of young coders, it’s difficult for many who have grown up with texting as a primary form of communication to remember to use complete words and sentences. As such, […]

Working Medicare without Medicare FISS DDE system

Does anybody here have any advice for working Medicare denials when you don’t have access to the FISS DDE system? My practice is having a terrible time getting denials fixed. Every time we resubmit something, it will get denied as "M80" which is essentially a duplicate. Medicare describes it as the claims bumping against the original. On resubmission, we enter the ICN #, condition code, and value code-which is what Medicare tells us they need, yet they continue to deny. Help!

Healthcare News: CMS and MACs working to update, correct ICD-10 coverage determinations

CMS and Medicare Administrative Contractors (MAC) are aware of certain issues regarding National Coverage Determinations (NCD) and Local Coverage Determinations (LCD) related to ICD-10 and working to resolve them as soon as possible, according to CMS.

In response to feedback from industry stakeholders regarding specific NCDs, CMS has offered additional clarifications and coding refinements. CMS updated its claims processing instructions and published new translation spreadsheets as noted in MLN Matters article 9252.

Most claims inappropriately rejected or denied due to isolated NCD issues have been reprocessed and required no additional action by providers, according to CMS. For more information for NCDs regarding specific claims types and reprocessing, providers should check their MACs’ website. A permanent systems update will be in place by January 4, 2016.

MACs are continuing to work on fixing issues with LCDs as well. All MACs updated LCDs prior to ICD-10 implementation and have identified some LCDs that required further refinement to edits to add allowable ICD-10-CM codes. Claims affected by these edits with dates of service on or after October 1, 2015, have been suspended until fixes are implemented, according to CMS. Once the LCDs are implemented, MACs are expected to reprocess the claims, with any inappropriately denied before the updates to be automatically reprocessed.

Additional LCDs found to have similar issues will follow the same process, according to CMS, and providers should direct specific questions about LCDs to their MAC.
