What Are Medical Spas?

You may have heard of medical spas before, but what is one exactly? Why should you consider visiting your local medical spa if you have problems with your skin or even some minor health issues?

Medical spas (or Medi-Spas) are a cross between the traditional day spas with massages and facials and a medical clinic where you can get work done on your appearance instead of on your innards. Medical spas are not quite as relaxed as day spas, but they arent as invasive or tense as medical clinics. Medical spas are a great way to get more intensive work done on your appearance without the invasiveness of surgeries.

Medical spas have a wide range of services; you can pick one based on what you need and more importantly, what you want for yourself. Some of the services you can use a medical spa for include:
Botox-a treatment of small injections that tightens skin and smooth out wrinkles and lines.
Microdermibrasion-this treatment takes off the top layer of the skin and reveals the younger, smoother skin underneath. It is usually done through a process much like sanding; hence the name-micro-derma-brasion!
Chemical Peels-Chemical peels are much like microdermibrasion, but they are usually a bit more comfortable and not quite as effective. Chemical peels use a mixture of chemicals to slough off dead skin.
Laser Treatments-laser treatments can be used on skin and hair; it is usually used to get rid of unwanted hair or to zap blemishes like brown spots, acne and other problems. Its completely non-invasive and painless, though it is important to do the follow-up work as well to make sure that the treatments sticks and that you have no side effects

Of course medical spas have a wide range of more spa-like services as well; you can get massages, acupuncture and sometimes dietary consultants in an overall wellness center in order to help you make the most of the treatment you receive and make it last longer. Still other medical spas give photofacials which are facials that promote collagen and get rid of red spots and age spots. You can even get laser treatments for unsightly veins on your legs or on the rest of your body.

There are medical spas in many larger towns and cities; all you really have to do is look them up in your phone book or online. The real question is whether it is being headed by a professional doctor-you should try to get a medical spa that is-and everyone should be licensed or at least have a lot of experience; enough that you see a thorough portfolio of their work. However, the very best medical spas have a doctor on hand and entirely licensed staff; the doctor may even do some of the procedures himself! Its very important to look into the medical spa before you go because some treatments can be dangerous if not done properly.

Medical spas are a great way to both relax and take care of many skin issues you may be having. They are run by doctors and usually by licensed staff and you may even have access to a wellness center that can show you the best way to eat and how to make your treatments last even longer. Most importantly though, youll go in wanting to look a certain way and when you are finished with your sessions, you will look younger, feel better, and have a more positive outlook on your life. What more could you ask for?
