Missouri hospital allegedly fired coder for refusing to ignore improper billing
Debra Conrad, a medical coder sued Mosaic Life Care Medical Center in St. Joseph, Mo., May 25 for wrongful discharge, unlawful retaliation and age discrimination. She alleges Mosaic Life Care fired her for disclosing the hospital’s fraudulent billing practices.

116-bed Missouri hospital to close next month
Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett, Missouri, a 116-bed hospital, will close June 30. It will stop providing Ob/Gyn services after May 17, and it will completely stop inpatient, emergency room and hospital-based outpatient services June 30. They are consolidating operations with Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

University of Missouri settles health care fraud claim
Settling a claim that their health care program committed fraud, the University of Missouri has agreed to pay the United States government $ 2.2 million. The program had been accused of violations of the False Claims Act by submitting many claims for their radiology services to various federal programs (such as Medicare and Medicaid), and also for maintaining that radiology images had receive physician review.
