global periods for self pay patients

I was informed by our assistant to our director that our billing supervisor told her that global periods do not apply to cash pay. That global periods only apply to patients that have insurance. This is completely new to me. My first thought was FRAUD. Your input and direction would be very much appreciated.

Thank you

Modifiers in post op/global periods.

Hi

This week I really feel like I need to attend modifier school. Please clarify for me in layman terms. When any type of procedure that has a global period, and another provider other than the one doing procedure (but of same field) you can charge a subsequent E/M as long as you add a modifier 55? Or is it only when the provider is of another group of same field that an e/m with modifier 55 can be billed?

Thank you

30140 & Global Periods

We billed Oxford the following 5 codes:

31296 -50 51
31297 -50 51
31295 -50 51
30520
30140

18 days later we billed Oxford 31237 -50 79 with the same dx we used for the procedure and it was performed by the same MD.

Oxford denied the post-op citing the visit fell within the global period.

My question is: 30520 & 30140 are the only two CPTs that have 90 day global periods while the other three have 0. When multiple procedures are performed and at least one of the codes has a 90 global period, does this automatically give the entire procedure a 90 global period?

Thank you in advance!
