Superintendent Commits Fraud when Helping Sick, Uninsured Student

School faculty often does whatever it takes to help out a student to ensure they thrive in their educational environment. And then, there is Casey Smitherman, the superintendent of Elwood Community Schools in Indiana, who took nurturing to an extreme when she committed fraud to treat a student with strep throat. Student PA and Student ARNP documentation

Hello,

The rules for medical student documentation were updated by Medicare to remove the requirement of the teaching physician to re-document.

But does anybody know of any rules/regulations/guidelines address student PA and student ARNP documentation?

Any advice on student PA and ARNP would be greatly appreciated.

Cleveland Medical Coding student reaches out

Hi, my name is Michael and I live in Cleveland, Ohio. I recently enrolled in online school to study in preparation to sit for my Certification exam in Medical Coding. I’m excited about my career decision, but it’s not going to be simple. If anyone is a fellow Medical Coding student, either around Cleveland or elsewhere, please feel free to contact me. If you’re a practicing Medical Coder here in the Cleveland area or anywhere else, who likes to give advice, chat about Coding, etc., I’d love to hear from you. My goals are to work remotely from home and perhaps have a marketable "Coding specialty", such as Behavioral Health or Orthopedic Surgery. THANKS and have a productive day!

New coding student enrolled in online college with a possible book shortage

Hello! I was a health care documentation specialist for more than 20 years, now a "refugee", and I just enrolled in Medical Coding school online. I’m excited about this career decision, as Coding is known to be an awesome, respected job — and pretty lucrative. My online school has a decent reputation overall. They do rely on hardcover books. There are multiple student complaints on the student discussion websites about waiting sometimes lengthy periods of time for the books to arrive via snail mail. I can’t let anything unnecessary stand in the way of sitting for the exam, so I phoned the college about the book situation, but they denied this. One always needs a Plan B, so if a book delay turns out to be the case anyway, I would like to ask my new community about the best sources for Medical Coding books. Amazon? EBay? Here? They can be awfully expensive. For instance, the first book we are supposed to receive from the college (which is included in the tuition), according to a college representative on the phone, costs $ 275 if obtained elsewhere. If I need to shell out significant amounts of money on books because the school has problems supplying them to us – okay – but the amount needs to be kept to a minimum. Any advice is appreciated — thanks! Also, anyone who is currently coding professionally, or is a student in northeast Ohio, I’d love to hear from you! Thanks again for all your help!

Qualifying As A Medical Student

Qualified medical assistants are in much greater demand now as compared to the past. Due to current economic scenarios, clinics, hospitals and other medical facilities centers have to use limited resources competently. Qualified medical assistants are now doing tasks generally performed by doctors or nurses.

To begin with, you must acquire a certification. You will come across several programs which will allow you to appear for the certification examination conducted by Council on Accreditation for Allied Health Education Programs or CAAHEP. A list of institutions offering courses that cover the examination syllabus is published by CAAHEP. You can acquire thorough education to become a medical assistant in many ways.

You may join a two-year program that will get you an associate degree. Some of the subjects that you will be studying are anatomy, health care law, physiology and microbiology. Specialization in an area of your choice is also available, for example clinical area or hospital administration.

Some of the courses are oriented towards preparing the candidates for passing the certification exam. By focusing on those aspects that will help you to pass the examination, these courses provide outstanding preparation for becoming a medical assistant.

You can prepare for the medical assistant examination with the help of online courses available on the Internet. To become a thoroughly qualified medical assistant, the best plan of action is to avail of a practical course from a certified institution in addition to taking an online course.

Some clinics and hospitals conduct free courses which provide yet another choice for you to get trained as a medical assistant. You have to simply apply for such a course. It is like an “earn while you learn” program wherein you also receive payment during learning. Perhaps the best possible education is available during such hands-on training as you are allowed to work in real life situations.

You can get a scholarship provided you agree to work in the institution for a stipulated number of years after clearing the exam. As a large number of candidates apply for such courses, only those who possess an excellent academic record and are successful in various interviews are selected.

If you acquire good quality education as a medical assistant, it will enable you to get employment in a hospital or similar institution offering health-care services. This profession is best suited for you if you like helping the sick by working with doctors and nurses.

Help a Student out

Hello,

I am a student and I am working on a project and this one question below is worth 40 points. I am little freaking out because the answer that I got I feel is lacking since this one question is worth so many points. Can anyone help me to see if I left anything out or am I on the right track?

A 71-year-old male patient comes to the hospital after having been previously diagnosed with benign prostatic hypertrophy with urinary obstruction. Due to this condition, the patient is experiencing increased urination, straining during urination, and a continual feeling of fullness after the bladder has been emptied. The physician performs a cystourethroscopyto examine the condition of the bladder and urethra, and then subsequently performs a UroLift transprostatic implant procedure using three adjustable implants.

CPT code(s): ____________________________________________

The answer I got was 52441, 524442 X2

I would appreciate any all all help as this is a self pace program and it is difficult to reach my instructor.
