Auditing: It’s in the Details

Follow this 12-point checklist to help you have successful medical claims reviews. Auditing is a multi-faceted appraisal that compares a patient’s medical record to a healthcare provider’s claim for medical services. Each facet must fit together to prove what was billed on the claim is completely supported in the medical record. Over the years, I […]

Auditing for teaching physicians

Hello all!

I am working on an audit for a physician who is part of a teaching physician program. I have never done this before and I’ve been reading the CMS guidelines and I just want to double check on this.. They are billing the office visits under the resident’s name- that’s correct right? I can’t seem to find anything to confirm or deny and this is something completely new to me. Any info would be very much appreciated.

Thanks!

Auditing Experience

I was wondering if anyone can help me with ways to gain experience in a auditing? I have been googling training’s, but what i am really looking for is hands on practice or something to make me get a feel for how it should be done in real life. I am a CPMA, but do not necessarily feel that passing the test makes me qualified to run an audit quite yet. So any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Auditing an OB visit

So in our state we are required to bill our Medicaid ob visits individually. For the patient’s that have no problems I am auditing them with a PF or EPF history, and EPF exam but the MDM is a stable established problem-1, urine dip for data reviewed-1 and then the mdm of SF.
Which would constitute a 99212 but my physicians think a normal ob visit is a 99213. I want to give them what they deserve but on paper it shows a 99212. Has any one run into this or can give any advice?

Auditing suggestions or thoughts

We are a hospital based clinic, Article 28 billing behavioral health services in NY. We are looking into doing internal audits on the charge capture, coding and billing of these services; does anyone have a process they would like to share or audit documents they would like to share that may be helpful as we start this new process?
If anyone has specific payer insight or situations you have encountered with payers I would love to hear about them as well.

Thanks!
