description for pathology codes

Can someone tell me if it is a requirement for pathology codes 88300 thru 88309 to have a description of the type of biopsy in the claim note? We have been adding the claim line note for years (ex liver bx) and now we are wondering if with the ICD 10 system is this still required. Thanks for any direction on this.

Where to find additional code description

Hello!

I am not sure where to find this additional information when coding, but for example, the AMA CPT book states that 29888 is the Arthroscopic ACL repair. The AMA just gives that description, yet I am told it includes the graft. Where do I look to find out if a code includes additional procedures like a graft or mesh..etc when the AMA book doesnt give further description?

Is there another program/reference I should be searching in addition?

Thank you!

Medical Assistant Job Description And Duties

Anybody seeking a career in medical assisting will want to know what their duties will consist of before they begin their career. This is where studying the medical assistant job description comes in. While there are many different duties that a medical assistant is responsible for, at the most basic, they are charged with administrative and simple clinical tasks.

The most obvious of the medical assistant’s duties consists of clinical tasks. The reason these are the most obvious is because these are the duties that everybody sees them performing. A medical assistant’s clinical duties include rooming patients, recording their reasons for seeing the physician, taking vital signs, collecting specimens, as well as giving injections.

It is also in the medical assistant job description to do clerical duties. Clerical duties consist of filing patient charts, entering patient data into the computer, calling in prescriptions and refills, filling out referrals and sometimes scheduling. Of course, the number of duties will be affected by the number of staff working in the office.

It is also the medical assistant’s job to keep the office clean and orderly. This consists of cleaning examination rooms, filing charts and organizing instruments. These duties are essential to making the environment comfortable for both the patients and the staff in the medical office.

Further duties that a medical assistant will be required to perform include: conducting routine lab tests, explaining to the patient how to take prescribed medications, scheduling appointments with specialists for patients, filling out insurance forms, removing sutures, changing wound dressings and bandages and sterilizing and setting up equipment for the physician. These types of duties are performed as they are needed, which will be quite frequently in a busy office. Depending on the type of office a medical assistant is working in and how many employees there are, their job may or may not require them to perform as many administrative tasks such as sending faxes or checking patients in at the front desk.

If the medical assistant is working in a very large clinic or office, the number and types of tasks that will be expected of them will be much larger. However, wherever a medical assistant procures a job they will be expected to perform both administrative and clinical duties.

It is clear that the medical assistant job description is very broad, which means that many tasks and duties can be assigned to them. Due to the fact that medical assistants can perform so many duties many health clinics and hospitals will hire medical assistants for various positions that will allow the health care providers and clinics run in an efficient manner.

Description of the medical stretcher

In a stretcher comprising an upper frame for placing a litter on an upper portion thereof having casters and in the front and rear portions, and a slide mechanism for changing up/down the position of the upper frame, the stretcher is provided with a non-step stopper mechanism for stopping the sliding in the slide mechanism in a non-step manner. As a result, the height of the stretcher can be changed up/down smoothly without rendering pain or uneasiness to a patient.

Field of the medical stretcher

The present medical stretcher relates to a stretcher used for emergency medical service to carry a sick person, an injured person, a patient, an aged person or the like.

Description of the medical stretcher

A stretcher is for carrying a sick person or an injured person with a litter placed thereon. Particularly, when a patient complains of an ache, even a small vibration amplifies the ache. In an up/down slide system of a conventional stretcher, a lock mechanism of oil spring is adopted. When locking, a pin is inserted into a hole and thereby the up/down slide system is locked at a given position. In the above system, stop positions are restricted to several steps. Additionally, while sliding up/down the stretcher, sometimes it takes a long time to fix the stretcher since the pin is hardly inserted into the hole; the pin is hardly pulled out; or it may stop halfway to cause a malfunction, resulting in a sudden lowering of the stretcher. As a result, sometimes pain and uneasiness may be rendered to the patient while sliding up/down the stretcher.

A sick person or injured person is apt to feel strong uneasiness and sensation of fear by just being laid down on a litter placed on a stretcher. In order to relieve such uneasiness and sensation of fear as described above as far as possible, it is desired to provide such stretcher that slides up/down smoothly and is capable of being fixed at any position.

An object of the medical stretcher is to provide a stretcher equipped with a non-step stopper mechanism capable of changing the height of a stretcher up/down smoothly in a non-step manner without rendering pain or uneasiness to a patient.
