Psychiatrist coding/billing

I have recently begun to code and bill for a psychiatrist in KY. The doctor for the most part only does a basic monthly office visit where he refills meds ect. He has a couple patients who get injections. Currently I am using the 99213 and 99214 for these visits. Is this correct coding for this type of office? And when billing for the Injection i am coding for the medication injected. Is this correct? All of the patients are either Medicare or Medicaid.

Ellington Psychiatrist To Pay Over $800,000 In False Claims Act Allegations Settlement

US Attorney John H. Durham and CT Attorney General George Jepsen announced that Ellington BEhavioral Health (“EBH”) has entered into a civil settlement agreement with the federal and state governments to pay $ 805,071 to resolve allegations that they violated the federal and state False Claims Acts. The government alleges that EBH submitted claims to Medicare for multiple units of urine drug screening tests when they knew or should have known that only one unit of service could be billed per patient encounter.

Psychiatrist coding when prescribing/renewing script and psychotherapy? E/M alone?

I code for family practice however we have recently added a psychiatrist/MD. He performs psychotherapy with meds/med management, most of his patients
are on medications. From reading the CPT manual I was thinking that I use the time based psychotherapy codes with a 90863 however I have just come across some information that states 90863 is not to be used for Psychiatrists prescribing meds, that an E/M code should be used instead.

Do I use an E/M code in conjunction with the add on psychotherapy code or only the E/M code based on his time?? Most of his patients are 30 minute visits.

The information I am finding is not very clear!

Thank you for any advice!!
