Healthcare Workers May Break Free of Noncompete Restraints

The FTC proposes to ban noncompete clauses in employment contracts. Many companies require employees to sign noncompete clauses before they will hire you. If you’ve never had to sign one of these contracts, consider yourself lucky. They are prevalent in the healthcare arena and prevent employees from working for a competing employer or starting a […]

HIPAA Compliance for Remote Workers

The laws are the same for employees and business associates working from home. In the past 10 years, the number of employees working remotely in the United States has increased by 115 percent. Workers comp or health insurance

I am working on an appeal for a patient. Here is a little background, patient fell and hurt his back at work, went to get checked out and they asked about abnormal movements. He was referred to a specialist where he was diagnosed with Huntington’s disease. He now comes to my office for treatment of the disease. I have billed his insurance but they are not paying for the visits due to it being related to workers comp. Should this be billed to workers comp or should I continue with the appeal?

Workers Comp Claim

Does anyone know anything about coding workers comp claims in Kansas? I have a claim that has denied stating I need a modifier on the office visit. My provider is a PA. The only other procedure codes I have are an x-ray and DME. I have already tried a -25 (even though I knew it was not correct) and it still denied. I have no idea what the payer wants. Any help would be appreciated.

Dealing with US Department of Labor for Worker’s Comp claims

Hi Everybody,

I code for 6 clinics in Oregon that primarily deal with worker’s comp insurance and I deal with a lot of WC insurance such SAIF, Sedgwick, Gallagher Bassett, Travelers, Broadspire, Corvel, Matrix, etc. We also bill to US Department of Labor as well but I’ve been having a difficult time getting paid by them. Can anyone who has dealt with them give me some pointers on how to deal with them/get paid or at least how I submit appeals or disputes to get paid? I know they are a federal WC insurance so they are not under the state’s jurisdiction. I even have trouble getting a claim/case file number from USDL as they state they cannot give out that information/refuse to give that info out. Any help would be great!

Workers Comp vs. Regular Insurance visit

I have a question and hope someone can help me. We have a patient that was seen for the request of surgical clearance by the surgeon due to a work related injury. During the exam, the provider noted cellulitis of his leg that was not related to the work injury. The surgery was cancelled due to the leg problem. Treatment was done and now the surgeon is requesting the primary to see the patient again to evaluate the leg and clear him for surgery. Do we bill the comp carrier because it is due to the surgeon requesting clearance again or do we bill the personal insurance because it is to check the leg which is not work related. Anyone???
