Coding Anemia caused by radiotherapy

I am using the 2018 AAPC study guide. It says if the focus is on treatment of the anemia code the anemia first, then the neoplasm and then Y84.2. I am trying to find what key word I would look up in the Index that would lead me to Y84.2. I understand the abnormal reaction but can not find a way to get there.

Linking Anemia and Hypothyrodism

Hi All,

Please clarify, can we assume cause and effect relationship between Anemia and Hypothyroidism. The medication list supports for Synthryroid and document does not support for chronic disorder for hypothryroidism. Can we code D63.8 – Anemia in other chronic diseases classified elsewhere, since hypothyroidism is mentioned under D63.8 conditions list.

TIA

Sequence Anemia in Order of Events

Is the anemia due to a malignancy or an adverse effect to treatment of the malignancy? Proper ICD-10-CM coding of anemia requires the coder to know what is causing the condition. Anemia ABLA Asymptomatic

Hello,

There is a little bit of tug of war in our practice as we are uncertain as to how to code "Anemia ABLA Asymptomatic". When looking it up in the ICD coding book under Anemia, blood loss, acute it refers you to D62….. Also under D62 is an Excludes 1 note for Blood loss anemia NOS D50.0… The part where we are stuck in a tangle is where the physician documented Asymptomatic. There isn’t anything in the coding book that will lead us to an anemia code for asymptomatic anemia so then the idea of D64.9 came up as that is a unspecified code. Any help or insight on this matter will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Anemia due to kidney failure, post transplant

How would you suggest coding anemia due to chronic renal failure if the patient is post transplant, and the documentation does not support current CKD? D63.1 is a manifestation code requiring the underlying condition… Would D64.89 be the most appropriate? Thanks in advance.

approved anemia for D46.1

Good Morning,

I work in a Hematology Oncology Office someone told me in an office that is next door to us that we should use D63.0 Anemia in Neoplastic Disease. Our NP’S says in their dictation that this patient has anemia of Chronic Disease due to Refractory Anemia with ring sideroblasts.

Could someone clarify this for us please?

Thank you
