Deceased physician

We are a solo practice and our physician died suddenly this past Sunday. We are in the process of getting a locum tenum and am curious of how to bill that. So it is my understanding we cannot bill under our physician or group NPI as of Sunday. Also, if another cardiologist offers to come to our practice and see our patients until we get someone, how does that work? We just want to get our patients taken care of and not lose them in the process.

Billing for DME after a patient is deceased

I have never come across this situation and hoping for some insight. We had a patient who was fitted for custom diabetic shoes and inserts in Aug. The shoes came in and were dispensed on 8/17 but the inserts were on back order and never dispensed. The patient passed away on 9/3. Her inserts finally came in this week. The person who does the fitting for the office said that the inserts can not be returned and that we can still bill for them. I don’t see how we can bill for inserts that were never dispensed but also don’t our doctor charged for something we can’t bill for. If we do bill them what date do we use?

Thanks for any help

Palliative House Visit Deceased Patient

A palliative ARNP made a house call today and the patient was deceased for about 30 minutes when he arrived.

He did check the patient for pulse and spend time with the family and will be signing the death certificate. Would this be billable as a usual house call service like 99347, or maybe another CPT I’m not familiar with?

Thanks in advance!

Medicare Payment on Deceased Patient

So we had a patient that we had a custom ankle brace made for. Before we could dispense the brace to the patient died. Just wondering if anyone has billed Medicare for this issue before? Everything I am reading tells me to bill the DOS as the date the patient died, but are there any specific modifiers that are needed? I am not finding much info on this. Thanks for the help!!
