PRF Period 2 Reporting Deadline Approaches

Recipients still have time to report Provider Relief Fund payments late if they can prove extenuating circumstances. If you’re one of the thousands of providers who missed the Provider Relief Fund (PRF) reporting deadline for Period 2, you have a limited window of time to make it right. Providers have until May 13 by 11:59 […]

Appropriate Use Criteria Testing Period Extended

The Appropriate Use Criteria (AUC) program, slated to begin Jan. 1, 2021, has been postponed. A notice on the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) website states that the educational and operations testing period will now continue through 2021. “We encourage stakeholders to use this period to learn, test and prepare for the AUC […]

Granulation tissue cautherzation during global period

If a patient has a G-tube placement(43653) and later comes into the office for a nurse check. During that visit the nurse noticed that granulation tissue has developed around the G-tube, so the office decides to cauterization the granulation tissue. Isn’t the cauterization of the granulation tissue included within the global period(90 days)?

Just wanted a second opinion.

Pain Management and the Global Period

Pain management during the global period of a procedure, if related to that procedure, is not separately reportable. If a provider other than the operating provider performs follow-up care, you must be careful to avoid “unbundling” of that follow-up care. The global period, or global surgical package, bundles all care typically related to surgical service […]

Wound Vac/Negative Pressure Therapy post op period still in house

Hello Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone could offer any guidance please. I have a Dr. that did 2 debridements on a pt that is in house.
On their rounding days they are applying a would vac/Negative pressure therapy. I was under the impression that this
would get bundled into the 90 day global. I know that the Hospital (PT Department) can charge for it but the Dr. is wanting
to charge for it. Any feed back would be greatly appreciated!

Unrelated Procedures or Visits leading up to the “Pre-Operative” Period

Scenario:
A member is inpt., provider is billing code 99232-24 (DOS 01-28-19) mod. 24 as member is still post-operative of another 90-day procedure…

Now day after (01-29-19) provider billed 99232-24-57 as they are seeing the member in post-op but also made same day decision for another 90-day procedure (61510-58).

How should the 01-28-19 DOS be billed as it is the day prior to decision of the major surgery and provider is indicating unrelated and decision was made the next day/same day 01-29-19?

01-28-19 99232-24 denied because the visit was billed by the same provider within the 61510’s pre-operative period.

Inpatient Consults/ICU Care /Postop within global period

I am new to this ENT specialty. Several of our physicians do many surgeries and spend significant time doing follow-up in ICU or other post-op follow-up visits….Typically for complications of surgery (i.e. tonsillectomy bleed or CSF sinus leak), other than billing for the complications procedure, such as 42962 with a -78 modifier. Is anyone aware if there is a way to capture the followup inpatient visits, within the global period, especially critical care/ICU care. I have not been able to find any way to capture any charges aside from a procedure they perform, when in the global period. This is a new specialty for me. Thanks.
