Does anyone bill for these and successfully get reimbursed? Our supplier of flu tests is telling us that these are the only ones available this year and I checked our fee schedules and some carriers don’t recognize the code. The ones that do pay pretty well for it. Any knowledge/input is very much appreciated!!! 😮

Report Drug Tests Correctly

If you’re reporting presumptive drug tests using codes 80305-80307, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services reminds medical coders and billers that you can use G0340-G0383 for Medicare coding. Drug Tests: Abused Drugs Coding for testing a patient for drugs commonly abused is based on a structure of screening, which is often referred to as presumptive testing, […]

MDM (tests contemplated at OV, but not decided until days following OV)

I have a CNP who billed an office visit on 4/4/18 and told the patient that if his (chest pain) symptoms progressed, he should return and a stress test would be performed. The patient called back 8 days later and the CNP ordered the nuclear stress test. An addendum was made to the 4/14/18 note. Can the stress test be used to achieve a higher level of service for the 4/4/18 encounter?

Summary of encounter: Patient had increasing angina. Progressive symptoms were discussed with the interventional cardiologist. It was decided that the patient should continue to maximize medical therapy. "We will have the patient return for stress testing if his symptoms do not improve." The patent called the CNP on 4/12/18 and noted no improvement in his symptoms. A myoview stress test was ordered for the next day. Can the plan for the myoview stress test be counted in the MDM for 4/4/18, or because the "final decision" for it was not made until 8 days after the face-to-face encounter, does it not count toward the level on 4/14/18?

Specimen Validity and Urine Drug Tests Under Review

A specimen validity test performed on the same day as a urine drug test for the same person should be a rare occurrence because specimen validity testing is included in the description of HCPCS Level II codes for urine drug tests. Billing both tests separately is like double-dipping. And yet, Medicare paid 4,180 clinical laboratories and physician offices […]

Using Medical Tests to Identify Panic Attacks

There are many types of illnesses, some are connected to your physical health and some are psychological. Your mind is very sensitive and any small change or incident can distort the mood. Have you experienced any kind of shock or momentary disturbance in your mind?

Recall the situation when you are watching a horror movie and the sudden haunting music amid the silence which had shaken your body and soul. This kind of sudden change in your moods can be termed as panic attacks.

During the attack some people even faint and some people lose their memory. When the attacks occur, your hands tingle and some people even experience nausea. There will be a severe chest pain. At the time of attack, your mind feels unsecure and you think that you are going to die. The severity can even make you feel like you had a heart attack.

When you think that you had panic attacks, you mind loses the thinking power. Some people even die when the attack repeats.

The severity of an attack can reach its peak within 10 to 15 minutes and it may last for at least 15 minutes. In some cases the attacks may last much longer. According to some survey there are about 6 million Americans who have been affected. The number of women are double than of men.

There are many reasons for these attacks. One of the major contributors is the stress. The stress may be from your work load or even from your social life.

Whenever the panic attacks happen, you feel like running away from everything and even hiding from yourself. The effect of an attack can be minimized and the person can be made brave by conducting the following tests:

* You need understand the past medical history which includes the mental status of the person.

* The medications that are being taken. If the medicine contains any kind of ingredients that causes mental weakness then the dosage should be checked.

* You need to understand the family background. That means if anybody in his or her family had the similar kind of experience.

* Is the person an alcoholic? If yes, then what is the quantity he or she intakes and the intervals of taking the alcohol should be checked.

* Caffeine is also considered to be one the most suspect factors which cause the panic disorders. The daily intake of the caffeine should be monitored.

* There are some medical tests such as CT scan or ECG which should be done.

Whenever you feel that you have been attacked by the panic disorder you should immediately consult your doctor. The initial diagnosis is considered to be the best for curing the disease.

Also before consulting your doctor, it is very important to make sure that the attack is not a heart attack and also not due to asthma problem.

As there millions of people who are suffering from the panic attacks. Fortunately the medicine has the solution for its treatment. You must be alert and educated enough to understand the situation in order to take the appropriate actions.

Check out Stop Panic Attacks Guide for lots of tips on stopping panic attacks.

Medical Tests Every Man Should Have

There are seven recommended health screening tests that all men should consider having run in the interest of their own good health and long life.  All seven tests may not apply to all men.  Four of these tests, however, do apply to all men at different ages.

Health Screening Tests for Cholesterol

Most men just don’t believe they have High Cholesterol and don’t take the time to have it checked.

For most men, you should have your cholesterol checked every 5 years starting at 35.

However, if you smoke, have diabetes, or if heart disease runs in your family, you need to start testing at the early age of 20.

If you are overweight – you need to get that check up now no matter what your age.

Testing Your Blood Pressure

You should have your Blood Pressure checked at least every 2 years. You need to see your physician for this. The blood pressure machines at the corner drug store may need calibration and are not accurate.
High blood pressure does not have any symptoms and you won’t even know you have a problem until it is too late and a stroke cuts you off at the knees.

Colorectal Cancer Health Screening Tests

Regular Colorectal Cancer testing should begin at 50. There is more than one kind of test available, so don’t chicken out. Just get it done.

Diabetes Screening

If you have high blood pressure and or high cholesterol, your physician is going to test for Diabetes. If you are overweight, your physician is probably going to run this screen at the same time as the cholesterol screening.

Prostate Cancer Screening

Talk to your doctor about the possible benefits and harms of prostate cancer screening if you are considering having a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test or digital rectal examination (DRE).

Sexually Transmitted Diseases

You need to be up front with your physician on this subject. You also need to consider an HIV problem if you have ever had a blood transfusion. Hiding your head in the sands of denial will not change the reality of the situation.

Depression Screening

This is probably the most controversial subject after sexually transmitted diseases. Many men were brought up to “bite the bullet” and keep quiet about any problems they are having. Generations of women have complained that their men just don’t share.

Everyone goes through periods of depression occasionally and for most people those periods only last for a few days and it is easy to say the reason why you are depressed. There are certain “acceptable” reasons for depression – losing a job, illness or death of a loved-one, or work stress just to name a few.

However, if you’ve felt sad, or hopeless, or have little interest or pleasure in doing things or if you just want to sleep all the time for a period of 2 weeks straight, talk to your doctor. You might find that with just a little help you can get back to your normal happy self.

Do not allow your physician to just put you on anti-depressants. Taking pills without doing something to change the situation or your attitude will only make it worse in the long run.

TB Skin tests and immunizations billing

If you have a clinic that is sending their employees off site to provide employee health services such as TB skin tests and flu shots for an outside company, do you still need a ‘physician’s order’ to satisfy billing that to insurance? Or is it ok for a nurse to administer w/out a physician signing off on an order but still bill insurance?
